Eag: travel to Excel Reaches New Heights

11 October 2012 - 14:27

As celebrations of a spectacular London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games draw to a close, visitors to the city’s Docklands continue to benefit from the huge investment in transport infrastructure and increased hotel capacity. Voted ‘Europe’s Best Business City’ for 18 years, London offers a staggering array of business and entertainment options, notably ExCel London, which is not only an award-winning and truly world-class events venue, but also home to the EAG International Expo 2013 to be held on 22nd - 24th January. Speaking about ease of access to the show, EAG Chairman Martin Burlin commented: “It’s difficult to imagine a European amusements and attractions event with better transport options and certainly not one now accessible by cable car across the Thames!

"In 2012, EAG International Expo’s visitors travelled from 61 countries so transport links and a choice of good quality hotels are extremely important. Visitors from the UK are equally well catered for and our exhibitors tell us that excellent access by road, coupled with efficient loading and unloading facilities, make ExCel a great choice for the show," he reported.

London ExCel benefits from three onsite Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Stations providing ready access to the Jubilee Line on the London Underground. The Jubilee Line connects with all other lines on the Underground and has been recently upgraded to achieving greater capacity and 33% faster journey times. This means that for show visitors planning to stay in London’s West End, ExCel will be an even shorter commute. European visitors to EAG International Expo have the option of travelling to London St Pancras by Eurostar from Paris or Brussels, and then onto Excel on the new high-speed Javelin service. For air travellers, London’s Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick and Southend airports are all within one and a half hour's journey time. London City Airport is actually within walking distance of Excel (weather permitting) and handles over 350 flights a day to 40 UK and international destinations. Those not wishing to travel quite so high may elect to try the new cable car service linking Greenwich and the O2 Arena to ExCel. With a river crossing every 30 seconds at a height of around 50 metres, this less conventional route to Excel is likely to be popular as some visitors opt to stay across the river in the attractive and historical Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The newly re-designed EAG International Expo website features easy to use interactive journey planners with links to convenient mobile apps. The site also provides access to some great hotel deals via the Expo’s hotel reservations partner, Event Express.

EAG International Expo’s Karen Cooke advises visitors to make their arrangements sooner rather than later: “The new EAG International website has been designed to enable visitors to readily compare travel and hotel options and Event Express; they’re just a phone call away,” she explained.

“In our experience, a small amount of online research at this stage can play a significant part in achieving the best possible show experience. The new redesigned EAG International Expo website will make light work of planning your trip,” promised Karen.
