A showcase of gaming innovation planned for October in Barcelona

Building on the success of the start-up zone at EiG 2012, which included 14 gaming start-ups, EiG 2013 is expanding the exposure opportunities for start-ups in response to the industry’s demand for more innovation on the showfloor and brand new companies for EiG visitors to meet and partner with.

Start-up Village will offer start-ups an economical way to launch their businesses, demonstrate their products and speak to potential partners. Compared to 2012, the Village will feature an enlarged and consolidated space with a networking area for EiG visitors to watch start-up demonstrations and discuss potential cooperation.

One of the 2012 start-up exhibitors, Lukasz Twardowski of Use It Better, commented on their involvement: ‘For a start-up like ours, which is now entering the iGaming space, EiG was a great starting point. I’m not sure if I have ever attended any event with such a high saturation of C-level execs, with whom I could interact so easily. If a bomb had hit that place at the time, the whole industry would have probably disappeared.’

The Village will also feature five finalists selected to pitch in the prestigious LaunchPad competition, returning to EiG for the sixth year. LaunchPad start-ups, selected in the submission process, now live and open until 29 August, will each have 10 minutes to pitch their innovative propositions in front of the EiG audience and a panel of investors, who will quiz them on their differentiation within the marketplace, challenge their predictions and advise on their commercial viability. The winning start-up will be selected in the audience voting.

Evan Hoff of Velo Partners, who returns as one of the LaunchPad judges in 2013, to judge the start-ups together with other seasoned industry investors, including Mark Blandford, Raj Ramanadi and Brock Pierce, said about this start-up initiative: ‘EiG LaunchPad is a stand-out, must-attend event for us and we expect a number of funding deals to be done on the back of it’.

A brand new ‘live score’ for the brand new, the first online newspaper exclusively dedicated to the player and, of course, to sport and betting. Thanks to the partnership with Sportradar, a leading company in supplying statistics and multimedia tools for betting around the world, this space that will become one of the ‘favorite’ of Italian players.

A new release of Live Score which was already active and followed on keeped up with the times and that integrates all the tools provided by the latest technologies that Sportradar, once again, was able to translate into applications and services in record time.

HOW FOOTBALL IS DOING? – “Can you check what Juve and Roma are doing?”. How many times in front of a pc or with a tablet in your hand you heard this question? Ice 2013 attendance audited at 22,247

Ice Totally Gaming 2013, the first to be held at the event’s new home at ExCeL London, has had its’ attendance confirmed at 22,247 by the not for profit organisation BPA Worldwide. BPA verified the total registered attendance as well as demographic and geographic profiles of attendees.

Glenn J. Hansen, Bpa Worldwide President, praised Ice Totally Gaming 2013 for voluntarily opening its records to independent certification and documentation of its data. He confirmed: “In addition to facilitating the buying and selling process of exhibit space, an event audit report provides exhibitors with assurance that their investment reaches target audiences for specific markets. It helps exhibitors to identify ways to maximize ROI and helps show organisers by documenting the quality of their attendees.”

Kate Chambers, Portfolio Director responsible for Ice commented: “The BPI audit confirms what a tremendous event ICE 2013 was.  Despite the difficult trading conditions, ICE continues to grow, achieving year-on-year increases in attendance.  All eyes are now on ICE 2014 and our focus is concentrated on delivering another world class international gaming event at ExCeL London.”

Bally Technologies to acquire Shfl Entertainment

Bally Technologies, Inc., a leader in slots, video machines, casino management, interactive applications and networked and server-based systems for the global gaming industry today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SHFL entertainment, Inc. at a per share price of $23.25 in cash for total consideration of approximately $1.3 billion.This consideration represents a premium of 24 percent to the closing price of SHFL common stock on July 15, 2013.

The transaction, which was unanimously approved by both the Bally and SHFL Boards of Directors, combines two best-in-class, highly complementary and customer-centric gaming technology companies with a shared commitment to innovation to create a company offering the gaming industry’s most diversified suite of products.

“Both Bally and SHFL have long histories of proven innovation, excellent customer service and successfully anticipating and adapting to changes within our industry, which makes bringing our two companies together a great strategic fit,” said Ramesh Srinivasan, Bally’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “The transformational acquisition of SHFL – which joins two high-caliber, talented and creative teams – will further enhance our ability to deliver future growth and serve our customers. EiG in demand as Early Bird cut-off draws closer

Organisers of this year’s EiG, which takes place across the 8th, 9th and 10th of October in Barcelona, are encouraging delegates to take advantage of the Early Bird rates which offer savings of up to €400 on the cost of buying a Full Conference Pass, and €200 on an Expo only ticket. EiG’s Early Bird rate closes automatically on Friday 19th July.

Sportradar and Itf launch new live scoring system: 50,000 matches covered live per season

As part of its partnership for the collection and distribution of ITF Official Data, Sportradar and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) are proud to announce the launch of the newly developed live scoring system. The launch of the new Live Scoring System enables ITF to have live data from all ITF Pro Circuit tournaments around the world directly by their umpires.The Itf schedule compromises over 1,000 tournaments with over 50,000 matches per year. Following the partnership agreement, Sportradar, the world’s leading supplier of sports and betting-related data, and the ITF began working together in 2012 to insure the collection and supply of live data from selected ITF tournaments to the media and betting industry. Sportradar and ITF have worked together closely during the last months to develop a Live Scoring System that fulfils various different requirements. On the one side the system corresponds to all officiating requirements according to the official tennis rules. On the other side the new system is based on state of the art technology providing the necessary data depth as well as the data transmission speed and security required by the betting and media industry. Jan Menneken, Executive Director, Commercial for the ITF, said: “The implementation of the new live scoring system is a milestone for the ITF. The collection of the scores directly by our umpires represents a major improvement of our internal processes, assures data integrity and provides interesting opportunities to develop added value services for the national federations, tournaments, players and commercial partners moving forward. At Enada Spring 2014 the European pinball championship by Ifpa Italia, Tecnoplay and Rimini Fiera

Enada to become the home of pinball! For several years, the amusement and gaming show held every Autumn at Fiera di Roma and in the Spring at Rimini Fiera, has been featuring international tournaments devoted to this fascinating machine. And now, the time of official recognition has come, with the next edition of Enada Spring hosting for the first time in Italy the European Pinball Championship. EPC 2014 will take place from 22nd to 23rd March 2014, and will be organized by Ifpa Italia (International Flipper Pinball Association in Italy), which secured the rights to organize it three years ago, in cooperation with the Italian pinball and videogame distributor Tecnolplay Spa, and with Rimini Fiera.

EPC 2014 will be presented at ENADA (Fiera di Roma, 16th – 18th October 2013), with all the details concerning an event that will be extraordinary in terms of participation — as many as 150 players from all over Europe are expected – and of its media impact, which will prove useful to relaunch the image of games as promoting enjoyment and amusement.

The European Championship was established in 2005 (the first edition was held in Amsterdam), and in the following years took place in Munich (Germany), Kolding (Denmark), London (UK), Wallisellen (Switzerland), Le Treport (France) and Madrid (Spain). In 2013 (from 13th to 15th Septmeber), it will be held in Stockholm (Sweden).

In Rome, in addition to the official presentation of EPC 2014, the Rome Pinball Tournament will make a comeback with its 4th edition, which will see the participation of the best Italian and foreign players.

Star Chamber to deliver enhanced inspiration for Ice 2014

A campaign group of senior consultants with multi-level marketing experience in consumer behaviour, engagement, data management, attitudinal research, and branding, has been brought together to contribute to the campaign for ICE Totally Gaming 2014. The Star Chamber, which also includes Julian Graves and Kate Chambers from Clarion, will work alongside the in-house marketing team as it prepares for February’s event, the second to be held at ICE’s new home, ExCeL London.

Explaining the role of the group, Kate Chambers said: “If I deconstruct my job into a single core objective, it is to cement ICE Totally Gaming’s status as the event of choice for gaming industry professionals based throughout the world. The job of the Star Chamber, which boasts many decades of experience working in a cross-section of industries, is to challenge conventional thinking and to bring a new perspective to the communications role. Whilst there are key fundamentals involved in putting on an event the size and scope of ICE which are unlikely to change, that cannot become the dominant culture within the organisation: the Star Chamber’s role is to challenge orthodoxy and to encourage my team to think differently and do differently. By taking on outside influences and breaking free from the strait jacket of convention we will be able to deliver a business event which meets and hopefully exceeds the expectations of our stakeholders.” As well as meeting on a monthly basis the Star Chamber helps to mentor members of the marketing teams working on Clarion’s gaming brands including those with responsibility for Ice Totally Gaming, Ice Conferences, GiGse, WrB and Eig.
