Campione d'Italia, Verda and Canesi: 'Open the Casino again and launch new economic initiatives'

The two candidates for mayor of Campione d'Italia, Roberto Canesi (Campione Rinasce) and Simone Verda (Campione 2.0) at the Gioconews.it digital panel explain their solutions to open the Casino again, closed in July 2018.

The future of Campione d'Italia cannot be separated from the reopening of the Casino, which was closed on 27 July 2018, that is since the day the Milan court ordered the bankruptcy due to insolvency of its management company. The two candidates for mayor of the enclave, Roberto Canesi (Campione Rinasce) and Simone Verda (Campione 2.0) are sure, attending the virtual meeting promoted by Gioconews.it and entitled "Campione d'Italia, what future for the community and the Casino?". A meeting that comes a few days before the municipal elections of September, 20-21, and a few days after the note with which the Ministry of Interior affirms, in reference to the implementation given to the agenda presented by the Lega deputy Simone Billi to the 2020 Budget law, that "any solution to open the casino again cannot be separated from the conclusion of the bankruptcy procedure, subject to judgment in the Court of Appeal". On the contrary, according to Canesi, "we have to follow the road of the reorganization of the current management company, and the creditors themselves would benefit from this, as well as the Municipality", bearing in mind that the Court of Appeal set aside the ruling of the Milano court and that today the bankruptcy procedure is underway at the Court of Appeal. Verda, on the other hand, says he is “confident in politics, which is studying a solution to reach a result in a reasonable time. The solution of the reorganization would be the one to pursue – Verda agrees with the other challenger -, but we still need to understand which spaces the national policy can see to open the Casino again and, if an agreement is reached for the reorganization of the company, a modification is still needed to current rules, to allow a third party to recapitalize the current company". The two candidates for mayor also underlined that the Casino, even in case of reopening, will have a lower economic and employment role than in the past, and that it is therefore necessary to invest in other sectors, such as tourism and culture, and have underlined their commitment to speak with the Lombardia Region on the issue of health care for the Campione people, which risks suffering drastic cuts in the part that is now provided by Switzerland.
