The Editor of Gioco News, Alessio Crisantemi, explains changements for italian gaming industry and about the network.

 

London – The Ice Seminar ‘Italy Briefing’ about Italian gaming regulation is started with an introduction of the organizer, Alessio Crisantemi, Editor of the italian magazine Gioco News. “I would like to reflect with you before beginning – said Crisantemi – Why this seminar? But, before that, why GiocoNews.it? GiocoNews.it is a network consisting of a printed monthly magazine and four online newspapers representing the reference point for the Italian gaming industry (and beyond). Along with the main portal – GiocoNews.it – we have GiocoNewsPoker.it, dedicated to poker world – GiocoNewsCasino.it, which is the only Italian newspaper dedicated to casino world – and the youngest GiocoNewsPlayer.it: an editorial experiment representing the first and only Italian newspaper oriented to players”.

“Well, GiocoNews was born eight years ago, just as online gaming was fully-fledged introduced in Italy. And it is not a coincidence. The idea – indeed, the belief – of our Publisher was to provide answers to a new emerging target. With the spread of online gaming, gaming industry was getting into a new dimension, because gaming would enter Italian people’s houses, while previously it remained confined in public places. This would allow to accept the image of the field – surpassing even some ideological restrictions – and it would have given rise a new type of players”.
“GiocoNews wanted to respond to these new requirements, creating a ‘hybrid’ newspaper, which could be able to talk to the operators, but at the same time to players too. Trying to figure out – and, if possible, to anticipate – the needs of these type of users. With a belief: that the questions arising from players represented daily bread for gaming businesses.
The fact of creating a hybrid – it is clear – represented a real bet (to stay on the topic). But today we can say that we won this bet, being GiocoNews the leading newspaper in Italy and known also abroad by now. And numbers clearly prove it: more than 54.000 Facebook fans, more than 3100 Twitter followers, more than 1600 fans on Instagram, more than 140.000 visits on Youtube channel, and almost 1200 followers on Linkedin”.
“We asked a question: gaming is a niche? Yes, maybe. But of course a particularly important niche, as these numbers reveal it to us. Well, in recent years industry has changed a lot, especially in Italy. Our country was one of the first in Europe to propose a rigid but effective regulation. And if we are here today it is because this approach worked. And it repaid the efforts made. To understand how and why it worked, I stop talking and I give the floor to Christian and to other speakers”.
